SVEA - Ring Rules and Conduct
(Revised January 29, 2013)
RULE 1 - HORSE COUNCIL
(a) All members must have BC Horse Council insurance and be prepared to show proof of same.
(b) All coaches must provide proof of coaching insurance prior to using the ring.
RULE 2 – ANIMAL HUMANE STANDARDS
(a) Every animal shall at all times, be treated humanely and with dignity, respect and compassion.
(b) If a person is found to be inhumanely cruel to their animal – their membership rights will be revoked for a period of no less than 1 year. All showing, voting rights and show points will be denied.
RULE 3 – TAIL RIBBONS
Every novice rider and horse shall adhere to the following:
- Red Ribbon – any horse that tends to be a kicker or unruly.
- Green Ribbon – young, nervous or excitable novice horse.
RULE 4 – UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT
(a) When a SVEA member or non-member exhibitor or his/her acting representative is guilty of unsportsmanlike
conduct, SVEA can suspend the rights of such member or exhibitor.
(b) Conduct will be determined by the Executive and/or the Judge.
(c) A breach of conduct as set out by the Rules of Equine Conduct results in suspension.
RULE 5 – SAFETY
(a) The wearing of approved headgear by all riders when mounted is mandatory.
(b) The wearing of heeled footwear by all riders when mounted is mandatory.
(c) Riders under 18 years of age must be under adult supervision while jumping.
(d) All dogs must be on leash and under control at all times.
RULE 6 – ARENA
(a) Ring booking is available for exclusive use with the exception of show weekends when exclusive use will not be
available. First priority is to paid SVEA members in good standing.
(b) Clean-up after your horse.
RULE 7 – EQUIPMENT STORAGE
These rules are on a trial basis for the 2017 show season:
(a) During the show season, the jumps can be left out in the arena for members’ use.
(b) During the winter months, majority of the equipment will be stored in the container.
(c) Courses should be built by knowledgeable members/coaches.
(d) No jumps are to be built on the track. No grids are to be left up.

No equipment will leave the grounds unless authorized by the Executive.
